Are the commas playing games with you?

Have you ever attempted to proofread your English text? Sought tirelessly for the last stubborn spelling mistakes? Tried to figure out where the commas go?

It can be incredibly frustrating, especially if you've not got a good grasp of English grammar; don't know how to approach the task; or new mistakes just keeping popping up, just as you thought you were done. But proofreading is the key to make sure that your text is bulletproof. It's where we:

  • catch the commas that make your message ambiguous and vague
  • correct the spelling mistakes that ruin the reading experience
  • tweak the text to make it easy to read and digest.

And then we get rid of that frustration!

Great, right?

What is English proofreading?

And what can you expect when you get your text proofread?

Amongst other things, proofreading is:

  • spotting spelling mistakes, lost commas, and ambiguous sentences
  • ensuring consistency and that you don't swap between UK English and US English, between artifact og artefact
  • checking the readability and flow so you know that your reader won't choke on the text
  • adjusting the layout so all pages match and aren't all over the place
  • comparing the fonts and font sizes across all pages so each heading doesn't have its own unique WordArt style
  • running through your notes and bibliography
  • double-checking photos and other visual so you know you haven't accidentally included a photo of your aunt with the caption: Stalin was the political leader of the Soviet Union, 1924–1953.

In other words:

I go over your text with a fine-tooth comb.

FAQs about English proofreading

Who's your English proofreader?

Hi! I'm Anne-Kathrine. I'm the nerd from school. I have an MA in English with Creative Writing and an MSc in Cultural and Creative Communication, and to top it all off, I have an accreditation in English grammar and proofreading. I didn't exaggerate when I said I was the nerd from school.

How did I end up as your proofreader? Stalk away here.

Why is Poe | Proof & Edit more expensive than other proofreaders?

Because you get the ultimate nerd as your proofreader.

I have an English grammar and proofreading accreditation from the recognised British organisation The Publishing Training Centre, which means that my work lives up to the British standard. And that's why I take more for English proofreading.
